Pie isn't the only thing that's flaky

Hello all, it's Jeff. Today's outing was a return trip to Banning's Restaurant and Pie in Tigard. And either on my way, or just about leaving my house, I received not one, not two, but three texts from certain nameless people saying that they would not be attending, two while I was en route on I-5. So, doing some quick math, I surmised that it would be just me, or maybe me and Andrea (which, if I knew how to accent things, would be spelled correctly).

So what's a boy to do? That's right: blueberry pancakes. Pie be damned!

And then a funny thing happened. As I was waiting for my tasty breakfast to arrive, Erin walked in. And she was faithful (to a point) and ordered mud pie; it was kind of pie-esque with a crust, but it was basically a bowl of ice cream with goo. But tasty, goo laden ice cream.

And then Gretchen arrived. And Gretchen also stayed the course and had a great looking blueberry pie. Actually, it wasn't pie so much as a crust with a bit of vanilla pudding and one metric ass-ton of blueberries. I suddenly regretted pancakes.

That's a lie; I love pancakes.

And just when we were all settling in for a post-pie and (pan)cake coma, in walks Andrea and Adam (which was described as her almost-fiance). And Adam did what the rest of us only dreamt of: he ordered the 5-layer chocolate cake. As it sat in the case it was intimidating, but on a plate it was a little less so. But still damn big (or long, as the case may be).

Andrea ordered from both ends of the spectrum: chili with extra onions and cheese, and strawberry-rhubarb pie. She says she's more of a savory than sweet person, so maybe one day we'll do a savory pie night. But of course with sweet for dessert.

And then as soon as it began, it was over. Adam and Andrea had to leave pretty quickly as they were heading to the beach on a whim; Gretchen, Erin and myself stayed a bit longer, but then paid our bill and went our separate ways (with Erin trying to make a left onto 99W (I think she's still there)).

Yay Pie!

Fourth of July: All I ate all day was pie...

Todd & Paige are gracious hosts who open their home (and yard, and beach) to hundreds of hooligans each July 4 and let us set stuff on fire. So we brought a crap ton of pie...
  • Emily made her famous apple pie. (But we didn't put any cheddar on it, which I'm sure made Annalise happy, although she 1) is missing out on the yum, and 2) clearly hates America, even on Independence Day. Ain't nothing more American that Apple Pie with a slice o' cheddar.)
  • Annalise made her famous key lime pie (Mom's recipe!) without supervision. Apparently there was an incident, but the second-try pie was awesome.
  • Amelia made a ridiculous peanut butter chocolate pie, which was frozen and therefore deliciously cold on a hot day. With peanut butter cups on top!
  • Megan made a banoffee pie (I have no idea how to spell that), which was made with banana, toffee, whipped cream (Kristan helped) and gooey goodness.
  • Gretchen made a lemon blueberry pie that everyone told me was amazing, but the people ate all of it before I could try it. In my defense, I had just eaten a plate of all full of all those other pies.
  • Nicole failed to make pie, but purchased an appropriate backup pie. It was peach, it had lattice crust, it was yummy. I ate some when I went back for more pie.
  • Jeff brought a keg, so we forgave him for not bringing pie. This time.
